Nico Rosberg celebrates winning the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix for Mercedes.

The Spanish Grand Prix betting tips made a loss of £2.50, with a £5 bet on each tip. It was looking good on Saturday after Nico Rosberg’s pole and as mentioned last time, his odds were far too high…

Unfortunately Sunday didn’t go as predicted, Ferrari’s upgrades didn’t produce the lap time they were hoping for and with Kimi Raikkonen’s poor qualifying (again) he had no chance to win the race. Fernando Alonso was looking in a decent position for a point in his home race, but then a clear visor strip scuppered those plans.

Finally Daniel Ricciardo had a strong race but as mentioned in my previous blog, he needed a bad race from either a Mercedes, Ferrari or Williams to get in the top six.

So we now move on to the most famous race on the calendar the Monaco Grand Prix. Even if all the following tips come in, I don’t think any of us will be able afford a yacht to park in the Monaco harbour for next year’s grand prix – but hopefully we can make a start.

ONE AND TWO – I’m going to start with a couple of predictions I made in the Monaco preview podcast. The first one is Alonso to finish in the points. I feel a points finish is just around the corner for McLaren and this is one track where a driver can drag a car around and place the car in a position it doesn’t deserve – and Fernando is the man to do it.

The second bet is for Pastor Maldonado to get in the points on Sunday. Pastor had a fantastic record around Monaco in his GP2 days (don’t mention the marshal-hitting incident in his World Series Renault campaign) and I feel this is the perfect time for him to start his points tally in 2015.

Fernando Alonso to finish in the points – 11/10 (Betfred, Paddy Power, Totesport)

Pastor Maldonado to finish in the points – evens (Betfair, Bwin)

THREE – I predicted on the preview podcast for Lewis Hamilton to win the grand prix on Sunday and nothing has happened to change my mind. I feel he will be desperate to win after Rosberg has won the last two Monaco Grands Prix and I’m sure he will get an extra little boost of confidence after signing his contract this week. Unfortunately it looks like the bookies are thinking the same way and his odds are very short. So for a little bit of value I’m going for Lewis to get the hat-trick – pole, race win and fastest lap.

Lewis Hamilton to achieve the hat-trick – 7/2 (Paddy Power)

FOUR – This bet is a bit of fun and therefore I will only be putting a quid on this one. It is the first driver to retire. For some strange reason Maldonado is the driver with the smallest odds – I wonder why? To be honest, this market is just a complete guess – especially at Monaco – but I have chosen Marcus Ericsson just for the reason he can be a little clumsy, and clumsy at Monaco normally ends up in the barriers.

Marcus Ericsson to be the first driver to retire – 18/1 (Bet365)

As we are based in the fine county of Norfolk, the one bet to guarantee you money this weekend is for Norwich City to beat Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final at Wembley this Monday. Apologies to any Boro fans reading this, but deep down you know it’s going to happen…
